White chocolate covered figs for Halloween treats
Halloween is one of those occasions where ‘more is less’, when it comes to candies. I saw cute totes with witches and skull motifs in the store the other day. Nothing beats the good old fashioned ‘Extra large’ pillow cases, wouldn’t you agree. I mean you are not coming back home to dump the cute totes and head out again are you?
Now in as much as you don’t want to overload the trick or treaters with sugar, at the same time you don’t want to get egged for being ‘the’ house handing over broccoli florets just because it is healthy. A happy medium would be something in between. That is exactly what I have aimed for this Halloween.
There is of course the pumpkin face with few mandatory missing teeth as the chocolate treat, however buried deep inside there is a fig. See what I mean?
I found this such a fun thing to do with your kid one afternoon. The filling can be dried fig or practically anything that you desire. I found these molds in “Michaels”. You can choose between Tombstones, axes, Witches hat, you name it. Add some food colour for fun.
Have a safe and happy Halloween friends.
Here is how I did these.
Recipe: I had 14 pieces.
White chocolate . 2 cups
Dried figs/apricots 14
Food colour ( optional) few drops of orange colour
Wash the silicone mold as per manufacturer’s instructions, wipe dry and spray some cooking oil in it.
Cut the chocolate chunk into smaller pieces. Take a medium sauce pan, fill it about a quarter with water. Place a good fitting bowl on top of the pan. Put the chocolate pieces in the bowl. Put the gas on high, to bring the water to a boil.
The chocolate will start to melt. Be careful it can burn easy. The gas can be turned to medium now, keep stirring the chocolate . Switch the gas off when there are just a few chocolates left. The heat will melt them.
Place one smarties in the leaf part of the mold. Take a spoonful of the above mixture and pour into the mold. Tap the mold to let the air bubbles out. Wait for a few minutes for this to cool down, now place the dried fig or apricot in it, pour more chocolate mixture over it and tap.
Leave it over the counter or place them in the fridge to harden.
Unmold carefully. Decorate more with food colour/ melted dark chocolate for additional effects.
