Milk Peda: Fudge. 5 Ingredients and ready in 5 minutes.
There is no denying that at times we all look for the fastest, easiest, no fuss recipe. Be it a dessert or a main course. And why not? Life is busy. Work, family, kids activities, sometimes elderly parents, community commitments I could go on and on.
Festivals needs sweets, period. The more decadent the better. Deep fried with a sprinkle of sugar or layered with cream, dunked in sugar syrup or crispy and sticky, you get the point.
The Peda or Milk fudge traditionally is cooked over a low flame for hours together to thicken the milk into a soft dough. Thanks to the internet where I found this Microwavable recipe which literally is done in 5 minutes. Now feel free to shape and garnish if you have time. Even if you don’t have time it tastes pretty darn good.
Traditional is always the best. One needs a few of these trick recipes up the sleeves to surprise the guests sometimes, wouldn’t you agree?
Give it a try.
You are welcome.
Recipe: Made 25-28 pieces
Sweetened condensed milk 1 tin
Unsalted butter 1 stick ( 1/4 lbs )
Milk powder 2 cups
Cardamom powder 1/4 tsp
Saffron strands 15-20
Take a tea spoon of milk in a small bowl, heat for about 10 seconds in a microwave and soak the Saffron strands in it. Let this sit for about 10 minutes before using.
In another microwave safe bowl take the milk powder, condensed milk and butter at room temperature. Give it a good stir.
Cook it in the microwave for 5 minutes. Take the bowl out of the microwave after every 1 minute and mix everything nicely with a spatula.
Add the cardamom powder and saffron infused milk, stir everything nicely to blend. Wait for the mixture to cool down such that you can handle it. Take a teaspoon measure of this mixture in your greased palm, form it into a small ball.
The Peda is ready. If you have decorative mold, you can go as fancy as you want.
If the mixture gets too dried up to form into smooth balls, add a couple tea spoons of milk and mix together.
