Dahi chura : Yoghurt and flattened rice bowl; Gluten free.
The world of Instagram is full of delicious pictures. I am being drawn towards food in a bowl. The varieties are mind boggling. Be it salad or smoothie bowls, the choices frankly are too many. It almost feels like an artist’s palette. The combination of colours, the selection of ingredients are done keeping in mind their place in the colour wheel as well as their nutritious value.
In Ayurveda the food has been divided in three categories. Those that are pure, essential, natural, vital, energy containing, clean and conscious fall under the ‘Sattvic’ category. Yoghurt is a sattvic food. All auspicious events calls for Dahi or yoghurt.
Incidentally today being Mahashivratri, Sattvic food is much desirable.
Now combine it with Poha, Chura, or flattened rice, garnish with some seasonal fruits, and the result is health in a bowl.
Recipe: Serves 3-4 as breakfast.
Flattened rice ( thin ) 1 cup
Greek yoghurt 1 cup
Persimmon slices 1/2 cup
Fig slices 1 Tbsp
Goji berries 1 Tbsp
Almond slices 1 Tbsp
Wash the Poha with couple changes of water. Add the yoghurt and mix well. The consistency should be to your liking. Adjust by adding more yoghurt if need be. Divide it in three serving bowls. Decorate with the fruits and almonds.
I did not add any sweetener. The persimmons were very sweet. Feel free to add honey or other sweetener of your choice.
Poha , Chura, or flattened rice is available in Indian grocery store or in the world food section of Walmart.
It is very light and easily digestible.
All measurements can be tweaked to your liking.
