The  faint  smell  of  roses  by  the  roadside  hit  me  only  after  I  had  walked  away  a  bit.  Like  an  afterthought.  These  are  Wildroses,  growing  abundantly  in  the  bushes  in  the  Prairies.  Differing from  their  uptown  cousin  Damask  roses  in  both    looks  and  fragrance. The  single  layer  of  petals  and  the  faint  fragrance

I was skimming  the  pages  of  the  latest  Conde nast  Traveler  that  I  carried  with  me.  We  had  a  short  break  to  the  Canadian  rockies  for  a  couple  days.  As  I  lifted  my  face  and  looked  at  the  mountains  in  front  of  me  I  soon  realised  this  is  not  the  place  to  bury  my

Painting  the  landscape  around  my  neighbourhood  can be  a  child’s  play  right  now. Swoosh!  Swoosh!  A  big  stroke  with  Cerulean  blue  and  another  one  with  Cadmium yellow.  The  outline  of  an  old  barn  or  a  grain  silo  in  the  distance  and  you  are  done.  The  Canola  fields  stretching  out  as  far  as  the  eyes

‘Shokale  taratari  deke  dish’,  ‘Wake  me  up  early’,  Mum  reminded  me.  It  was  her  oath  taking  ceremony  next  morning. As  she  tied  her  hair  and  changed her  sari,  I  couldn’t  help  but  notice  how  much  she  had  aged.  Walking  very  slowly  supporting  herself  on  the  walking  stick  she  asked  for  help  in  putting  the

I  am  following  with  interest  the  “30  Day  fitness  Challenge”  taken  by  my  Blogger  friend  Rekha.  She  writes  about  her  daily  progress  in  her  beautiful  blog  “My  Tasty  Curry”.  Starting  from  breakfast,  snacks  or  supper  she  gives  an  account  of  her  daily  food  intake  as  well  as  her  exercise  regime.  Appetizing  pictures  create  added

Browsing  through  the  aisles  in  Chapters  store,  this  book  title  caught  my  eyes.  “The  Emperor  of  all  Maladies”,   by  Siddharta  Mukerjee. ‘Pulitzer  Prize  Winner’  it  was  highlighted.  What  a  befitting  name  for  the  disease.  A  disease  that  creeps  in  so  surreptitiously  that  many  a  times  it  is  too  late  when  diagnosed.  A  disease

We  sat  on  the  beach  with  our  feet  buried  in  the  sand.  The  cold  water  of  the  Atlantic  ocean  slapped  our  feet.  Each  wave  brought  with  it  shells,  seaweeds,  crabs.  There  were  ducks  bobbing  in  the  water  and  gulls  flying  over  our  head.  “Dekhecho  ki  korche?”  Did  you  see  what  they  are  up  to?,

“Porikhha  bhalo  howk”,  Wish  your  exam  goes  well,  Ma  said  with  her  Yoghurt  dipped  finger  on  my  forehead. That’s  correct,  yoghurt  is  not  only  an essential  ingredient  in  Indian  food  but  also  in  Indian  traditions. Yoghurt  is  considered  auspicious,  in  fact  ” Panchamrita”,  a  concoction  of  honey,  sugar,  milk,  yoghurt  and  ghee  is  used  in

Knowing  my  love  for  food  and  stories  about  food,  I recently  received  ”  Climbimg  the  mango  trees  “,  by  Madhur  Jaffrey ,  from  my  children.  Going  through  the  pages  of  the  book   took  me  back  to  my  childhood  days. Many  a  summer  afternoon  has  been  spent  sitting  on  the  branches  of  our  Guava  trees.
