Hi, I’m Ratna.
I grew up in a very small town in India, I still live in a very small town, in the Prairies, here in Canada. I like to cook, eat, and talk about food. I feel every dish has a story to tell. It could be the first time one had it, or wanted to but couldn’t, or even shouldn’t have had it, but did. Food also reminds me of different seasons and celebrations. We did not have malls those days, so was brought up on seasonal produce only. The smell of cauliflower being cooked always reminds me of a chill in the air, just like eating mangoes of summer holidays.
The women in my family never measured the ingredients or consulted a book. This is how I learned to cook also. I only use fresh ingredients in my cooking. I have started measuring my ingredients now. This is a place where I write about my food experiences.
“Sutra” is the word for thread. I hope to pass this cooking “thread” to my children and grandchildren, just as I have received it from my mother and grandmother. I have kept my day job, where I help people smile better.
Thanks for stopping by, I’d love to hear from you. Please write to me here.
